M.SC IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

OVERVIEW

M.Sc. in Biotechnology or Master of Science in Biotechnology is a two-year postgraduate program divided into four semesters. Students who wish to pursue a Master’s in Biotechnology need to have a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology or any of the Biological Sciences.

Biotechnology is the application of biological knowledge related to genes, cells, and molecules. This knowledge is used to create valuable products, design new medicines, produce clones, genetically modify food, and improve crops and food grains’ productivity. Biotechnology incorporates an ever-growing collection of laboratory techniques used to alter and manipulate genes, cells, and molecules. India has witnessed rapid growth in the biotechnology sector in the last few years. 

The curriculum is designed in such a manner that it will make the students competent in both theoretical and practical aspects of Biotechnology. The curriculum covers topics like Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biological Chemistry, Environmental Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Plant Biotechnology, Principles of Bacteriology and Virology, Animal Biotechnology, Food Technology, and Nutrigenomics, Advanced Genetics, Nanobiotechnology, Stem Cell Technology, and Regenerative Medicines, Agricultural Biotechnology and so on. The focus is also on enabling the students to acquire practical and laboratory skills. Likewise, students are trained to prepare a statement of a testable hypothesis, strategies for testing, methods of data analysis, and interpretation of results.

Students after completing their M.Sc. in Biotechnology can opt for higher studies or look for desirable jobs. Biotechnology postgraduates’ sectors can find suitable jobs are pharmaceuticals and medicine, food and beverage sector, agricultural sector, animal husbandry, research, and academics. Postgraduates can work as Senior Associate Scientist, Research Biochemist, Biotechnology Researcher, Quality Controller, Associate Engineer, and Regional Managers.
